Where apps hide your files
The Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 keeps its saves in a saves folder inside Application Support. Here is the exact path, which stores it applies to, and how to back up without a cloud sync overwriting your copy.
For the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 bought on Steam, GOG or Epic:
~/Library/Application Support/CD Projekt Red/Cyberpunk 2077/saves
CD Projekt Red's own Mac support article gives this folder for save files (it capitalises the last part as Saves; a Mac disk ignores case by default, so both spellings open the same folder). The folder above it, Cyberpunk 2077, is where PCGamingWiki places the game's settings. Steam's cloud configuration for the game agrees: its macOS rule points at the same saves folder.
In Finder, press ⇧⌘G (Go > Go to Folder), paste the saves path and press Return. Terminal does the same:
open ~/Library/Application\ Support/CD\ Projekt\ Red/Cyberpunk\ 2077/saves
To list the save names without opening anything:
ls -la ~/Library/Application\ Support/CD\ Projekt\ Red/Cyberpunk\ 2077/saves
Cyberpunk 2077 reached the Mac with Update 2.3 on 17 July 2025 (CD Projekt Red's patch notes, posted the day before, say the update "lands tomorrow"). It runs only on Macs with Apple silicon. CD Projekt Red's Mac requirements are macOS 15.5 or later, at least an M1 chip with 16 GB of memory, and an SSD; it lists 92 GB of storage for the Steam, GOG and Epic builds and 159 GB for the App Store build.
The App Store sells it as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate (bundle identifier com.cdprojektred.cyberpunk). App Store apps are sandboxed, so that build keeps its data inside its container under ~/Library/Containers/ rather than in your main Application Support folder. CD Projekt Red does not document the path inside the container, so first check it exists:
ls ~/Library/Containers | grep -i cdprojektred
If CD Projekt Red exists directly under ~/Library/Application Support, you are on the Steam, GOG or Epic build.
On Windows, Cyberpunk keeps each save in its own sub-folder, named for its type and number, such as an autosave, a quicksave or a manual slot, and each folder holds the save file, a small metadata file and a screenshot. The Mac files are expected to follow the same pattern, but no Mac page spells out the names, so list your own folder and keep each save's folder whole. Copying only the largest file inside one will not give you a working save.
Quit the game, then copy the whole saves folder:
cp -R ~/Library/Application\ Support/CD\ Projekt\ Red/Cyberpunk\ 2077/saves ~/Desktop/cp2077-saves
That reads the originals and writes a copy to your Desktop. Do this once before a patch, a mod or a new playthrough. Saves are tiny next to the game itself, so a backup costs almost nothing.
To restore, quit the game, move the current saves folder to the Trash in Finder, and put your copy back under the name saves.
Two kinds of cloud sync can be involved:
saves folder. One GOG forum post from the Mac launch period said Galaxy cloud saves were not yet available on macOS, so check your launcher's current status instead of assuming. When a cloud is active, it can replace a file you restored by hand with its own newer copy. If you restore a backup, turn cloud sync off for the game in your launcher first, launch the game once to confirm your save is there, and only then turn it back on.
Windows keeps saves under Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077 in your user folder. A GOG forum user reported copying all their Windows saves into the Mac saves folder and said it worked. This is one player's report rather than a vendor-supported route, so copy your saves, do not move them, and keep the Windows originals until the game loads them. Saves from a game version newer than your Mac one may not load. Cross-progression is the supported way to carry your latest saves between platforms.
Install the game, run it once so Application Support/CD Projekt Red/Cyberpunk 2077 exists, quit, and copy your saves folder in. If your store's cloud or cross-progression holds your saves, they may already be waiting in the Load Game menu, so look before you copy.
~/Library is hidden in Finder, and Finder and Spotlight searches leave out Application Support. The save sub-folders are named by type and number rather than by date or mission, which makes them hard to recognise by sight.
If you cannot remember which folder holds your saves, type Cyberpunk into Everywhere to see the game install, the CD Projekt Red support folder and any backup copy side by side, with the folder shown beside each. Press ⌘↵ to reveal one in Finder. The Application Support part of ~/Library is covered without extra permissions; an App Store copy in ~/Library/Containers needs Full Disk Access. Everywhere searches names only, not the content of a save.
In ~/Library/Application Support/CD Projekt Red/Cyberpunk 2077/saves, for the Steam, GOG and Epic builds. CD Projekt Red's Mac support article gives the same folder.
Inside its sandbox container under ~/Library/Containers (the app's bundle identifier is com.cdprojektred.cyberpunk). CD Projekt Red does not publish the exact path inside it.
One GOG forum user reports that copying Windows saves into the Mac saves folder worked, but it is not a vendor-documented route. The supported way is cross-progression through a CD PROJEKT RED account, set up from the Load Game menu.
No. The Mac version arrived with Update 2.3 on 17 July 2025 and needs Apple silicon (M1 or later), macOS 15.5 or later and 16 GB of memory.
Everywhere keeps track of every file on your Mac — including the folders Spotlight hides and drives you have unplugged. Free for a day, then $19 once.
