Comparisons
These two are more alike than anything else on the Mac. That makes the differences small, specific, and worth knowing before you pick one.
Almost every Mac search tool is a Spotlight front end. These two are not. Both build and maintain their own index of filenames, both search it by scanning, and both point at Everything on Windows as the thing macOS was missing. If you have been looking for that, these are the two products in the category.
Everything below is checkable. Install both, they are cheap, and the differences show up in about ten minutes.
It is cheaper, and there is a free tier. Cling is free to use, with a Pro licence at around 12 euros for a lifetime. Everywhere is 19 dollars with no free tier. If cost is the deciding factor, that is the whole comparison and you should stop reading here.
The trial is longer. Cling gives you 14 days of Pro. Everywhere gives you one day. A search tool proves itself the first time it finds something you would otherwise have lost, and that moment does not always arrive on day one.
Raycast integration. If you already live in Raycast, Cling has an extension and Everywhere does not.
Batch actions. Cling puts more emphasis on doing things to what you found: batch rename, move, custom scripts.
It runs on older Macs. Cling requires macOS 14 Sonoma. Everywhere runs on macOS 13 Ventura. That is not a small gap: it covers Macs Apple dropped from the Sonoma upgrade list, which are exactly the machines where a full disk of accumulated files is most likely to be the problem.
Unplugged drives are not a paid extra. Everywhere indexes external volumes and keeps the records after you unplug them, so a search tells you which drive a file is on before you go hunting for the drive. In Cling, external volume indexing is a Pro feature.
Per-keystroke speed. Everywhere answers in roughly 2 ms per keystroke on a six million file index. Cling advertises searches over millions of files in under 100 ms. Both are far faster than Spotlight and both feel instant; the difference only shows on very large volumes.
Neither searches inside file contents, and both are right not to. Spotlight already does that well, and a filename index is the wrong structure for it.
Both need Full Disk Access, and neither can be on the Mac App Store because of it. Both are direct downloads, signed and notarised.
Both find things Spotlight refuses to: ~/Library, package contents, dotfiles, anything in a .noindex folder.
Pick Cling if you want to spend nothing, if you want a long trial before deciding, or if you are already a Raycast user.
Pick Everywhere if your Mac is on Ventura, if you work across external drives that are not always plugged in, or if you want the unplugged-drive behaviour without a Pro tier.
Honestly: if you are on Sonoma or later and do not care about external volumes, try Cling's free tier first. It costs nothing to find out, and a tool you have actually used beats a comparison table written by either of us.
